An Alum’s Perspective
In my experience, just one alum can be a very powerful member of a CSO—part of a “three legged stool” of the CSO team. I have generally let the student(s) and professor(s) initiate what happens with my CSO because they are the ones charged by the Manual with “forming and conducting” things, and they are more aware of the specific needs on campus. However, I’ve suggested ideas and supported events prayerfully and practically.
As an alum, I helped organize meetings and events, filled out paperwork, helped transport supplies, and put up posters. When students and professors were in classes, I manned our Science and Health table. I was even able to organize a few events through connections I had as an alum. And I was able to bring moral support and insight from a unique perspective. Each CSO may utilize their alumni differently, but no matter how things are done, it can be highly rewarding.
