THE POWER OF ONE
“…it is a thing to be thankful for that one can walk alone the straight and narrow way; that, in the words of Wendell Phillips, ‘one with God is a majority.’”
(Miscellaneous Writings, p. 245)
What can one Christian Scientist on campus do?
Actually, there’s a lot. Some of the most active CSOs are made up of only one person. And they are accomplishing a lot.
CSO work can sometimes feel lonely, but know that you are never alone. You don’t need to feel a sense of burden about trying to figure out what to do or say. God is leading and guiding you. Your love of Christian Science and your willingness to listen for God’s plan will equip you with everything you need. You can be confident that the Christ is already paving the way for what you will be doing.
Your CSO work is motivated by your love for others. All you are doing is sharing something that has helped you in your own life. Everyone shares a desire to feel happy, fulfilled, and satisfied. CSOs have a unifying, healing presence, built on the basis that we are all children of God. You don’t need to feel like you have to convince anyone of anything. The Christ is speaking to each one of us. Everyone is capable of knowing God, and that’s something to rejoice in!
Understanding your oneness with God promotes confidence in the divine authority given to you and your work. This understanding will result in inspired, effective, and uplifting CSO activities.
