Reading the lesson this week I noticed at least one mention of ‘Beautiful feet’, other than in the responsive reading. What does this phrase mean? Is it just one of those Biblical Phrases, or does it have a more spiritual meaning?
Abigail: Great question from great spiritual alertness. Perhaps its referring to “understanding”, spiritual understanding/thought, having the “Mind of Christ”. It’s a wonderful study to see how important the idea feet are in the Bible: washing feet (perhaps being willing to humbly deal with what may be very “smelly” (obnoxious, unappealing) in our neighbors to lovingly help them overcome what’s making their thinking “smelly”:-). Check out in the chapter “The Apocalypse” in Science and Health: “And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven,
clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and
his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of
fire: and he had in his hand a little book open: and he
set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the
earth. Mrs. Eddy’s spiritual interpretation is very telling. I think you’ll find some great inspiration from a study of feet. Have fun!
Hi Abigail, I’ve been thinking about that too! One way I’m seeing “beautiful feet” is as walking in the footsteps of holiness. Related to this I think is the verse from Psalms “worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”
