What a nice bit of sharing. There's no ego in this story with a happy ending. I learned quite a while back - from one of the Publishing Society's tapes for young children - self-consciousness is still "self" and that (as you said) we go to give a good time, not to get a good time. The thought that came to me reading this article - is how well it would be understood out in the main-stream. Perhaps you can listen for a time and place to submit it. How many more could be blessed!

Hi Arlene -- Thanks so much for your comment. Yes you are very right with your point about "trying to impress". I'm seeing more that successful friendships and relationships are little to do with impressing, but much more about genuine caring and affection, an "unselfed love" to use Mrs Eddy's phrase (e.g. SH p192).

Great to hear you wanting to do more writing -- and perhaps we look forward to seeing a inspired piece of yours sometime soon on T4T or JSH :)

Peter, I could attest to this!!! I have seen you from just watching to really enjoying the floor!

I have so often heard from a lot of Christian Science Students that shyness is actually not a quality reflected from God. To think more about it, shyness is like hiding your light under a bushel.

A lot of people would see that one may be trying to impress others not realising that he or she may just be expressing what he/she knows and capabilities. You are right in quoting Mary Baker Eddy. Trying to impress is not a kind of happiness sought in Soul, but expressing the qualities of Soul does.

I myself stop myself from writing, believing that I am now rusty in that department. However, when I pray for ideas and thoughts, they come...so I think, I will start my journal of spiritual thoughts again.

Thank you for sharing this one.
