Radical Acts 2013
Are you ready to reach out radically?
Radical Acts 2013 is about reaching out to help and heal others. Like last year, we’re featuring 20 of Jesus’ toughest teachings. Choose a Radical Act to live yourself over the next few months and share your story. We’re eager to hear any story about any Radical Act — especially those that involve helping and healing others.
New content for Radical Acts 2013
This year Radical Acts will introduce you to some truly inspiring people who are leaping over supposed barriers of race, class, religion, education, language, etc. to help and heal others. Ask them questions during our LIVE EVENTS — when we’ll address any challenges you may have with reaching out. Connect with them through audio PROFILES and TAKEAWAYS. Chat with them via online comments.
Every topic below can also apply to animals you may reach out to — not just people.
The Least of These My Brethren
Monday, October 21, 8:30 – 9:30 PM EST
You want to reach out to someone who’s thought of as the “lowest of the low.” Maybe an unpopular kid, or a prison inmate, or another kind of “outcast.” But it’s WAY harder than you expected….
Valley of the Shadow
Monday, November 18, 8:30 – 9:30 PM EST
You want to reach out to someone who feels no hope. Maybe they’re crushed by a recent event, or stuck in a care facility. And maybe — maybe? — they’re starting to get you down….
Children of Light
Monday, December 9, 8:30 – 9:30 PM EST
You want to reach out to someone who’s convinced s/he can’t succeed. You know that’s not true. They rock! But they don’t get it, and every day brings them fresh disappointments….
We’re profiling three people who reach out in ways that are downright thrilling.
Tien Stone Langlois
Tien’s a certified teacher and the director of Scholars Together Learning Community. Most of her students have been diagnosed with serious developmental and behavioral challenges, but that’s just the beginning of their stories.
Ricky’s a Presbyterian minister and a class-taught student of Christian Science. He has a vibrant youth ministry, and he also builds and rehabs houses while mentoring low-income families to prepare them for home ownership… more on Ricky
Paul’s a high-risk school teacher as well as a Christian Science healer and chaplain. He’s currently founder and director of Stronghold School Systems, which uses Christian Science principles to help students transform their lives.
We’re also posting twenty-plus short podcasts featuring lessons learned when, for example,
At age 16, Tom foils a friend’s suicide attempt through prayer;
- Julio Rivas forges an unlikely spiritual bond with a gang of thieves; and
- Tricia Chantha gets too invested in trying to help a young drug addict.
You may never find yourself in the same situation — let’s hope not with thieves! — but the “takeaways” from these podcasts apply to all our efforts to reach out.
“Keep open house,” said Jesus. ”Be generous with your lives.”* Let’s all say YES together!
