We are family
“Love your neighbor” takes on a whole new meaning in this trio of stories by Los Angeles high-risk school teacher Paul White, who’s repeatedly risked his life to help gang-involved youth.
LOVE your neighbor as yourself
Topics: Social activism

I shared the first part of this clip with my Sunday School class today. The ideas seem to really resonate with them. We talked about how each of them LOVED their siblings, and how they would do anything for them. Then each child identified someone in their lives that they have been having difficulty with. We talked about all the things that each student would have to do, to start thinking of them as “family”. Some of the things we talked about were: forgiveness, being friendly, turning the other cheek. We used Jesus as a good example – he seemed to have done these things so easily
Total LOVE in action by living and being it! Thank you for this healing account that is a strong impetus and reminder for us all. With deepest gratitude and appreciation for your being there.
The key part of this story for me is that we don’t share by telling or even giving the Truth, we share by expressing and demonstrating LOVE.
Thanks Paul, I know this inspires many if not all who hear it.
I echo Carlos’ “Wow Paul” with exclamation points !!!!
The theater episode and its follow-up proved twice-over that the best preaching and the best teaching is without words. Love in action attracts with its radical acts.
Having read your book, White’s Rules, I look forward to hearing more of its stories in this space.
Paul ~ Thank you so very much for this moving account of how you are living the life Jesus taught. Wow! Loving your neighbor in action.
Wow Paul… thank you so much for sharing these stories! I really like the idea you put forth that if we just accept we are a family then we don’t have to go out of our way for opportunities to make a difference. There are brothers in need all around.
To me this is one of the things that’s really neat about Jesus’ story. It never seems like he’s going out of his way to find something broken to fix, or to do something that makes a point. He just seems to be fully aware of his surroundings at every moment, and loves enough to do something about the things that aren’t right.
