Laura Lapointe: The Battle
While Laura enjoys a variety of styles and sounds, it’s been gospel music that has deeply touched her heart and lifted her spirits in the toughest times. She started listening to gospel in middle school, then joined her college gospel choir and has not stopped singing since.
Recently Laura sang with a choir at the annual Gospel Night at the Pops at Symphony Hall in Boston, as she has for several years. She is always inspired by the opportunity to join singers from a wide range of religious and denominational backgrounds and make a joyful noise of sincere gratitude and praise together. Whether with a choir or on her own, Laura loves to bring an encouraging message through song.
One of Laura’s greatest musical influences has been her brother, Stephen, who plays jazz guitar. They have collaborated on some compositions and played together at church services and events.
Laura finds music to be a powerful form of prayer and a practical way to bring spirituality into her daily experience in both challenging and joyful moments. She hopes to release a recording at some point. For now you can learn more about Laura through the website for her one woman show, http://workboots.lauralapointe.com/about/.
Song Title:The Battle
Lyrics:Sometimes it gets too hard to fight
You tell me to just stand still
I look and I look and I see no light
But I know Your promises will be fulfilled
I hear a voice say, It won’t be long.
The darkest hour precedes the dawn.
CHORUS:
During the battle I claim the victory
I will shout and sing like it’s already done
I will praise You now for the things I can’t see
You told me that this battle’s already won
Even if now doesn’t look so good
And I don’t feel like singing this song
I remember that You said You would
Fight for me if I just hold on
So I will stand still and I will sing
You’ve won my battles before, so go ahead and do Your thing.
CHORUS
BRIDGE:
Stand still, and know the promise will be fulfilled
Hold on, be strong, this battle’s already won
RAP:
When David went to fight that giant
Everybody thought he was crazy for tryin’
Violent Goliath was all scary and defiant
David said I’ve already slain a bear and lion
In the field with my sheep and God brought me out
Been through some battles before so I know what I’m talkin’ about
So don’t come out here and parade and fuss and shout
This battle is the Lord’s and God’s gonna win no doubt

Doesn’t play in Kuwait, either. Buit I’ve hear Laura at Association and LOVE her music and singing immensely.
When I push ‘play’ [forward arrow] it only changes colour to blue, but it doens’t play. Nothing happens. I live in New Zealand and am using Firefox – I’ll give it a try in IE and see if it is available.
If the problem persists, write to me at rich...@csps.com and we’ll get some tech help for you.
Sadly it doesn’t seem available to me … is it only available to those in the US?
This should be available to everyone with internet. What happens when you push play?
Just caught up with this today, Laura. Awesome! You’re an original.
Great voice and wonderful lyrics Laura……’the battle’s already won!’
Thanks for the reminder.
This is awesome! And after checking out your website, this makes me wish that “What color are your work boots?” would go on tour…
A voice to treasure, a message to inspire. Wonderful Laura. Don’t ever stop singing.

Yeah! I LOVE this!!
Loved this! Phil – liked the story told in her own words before the music. Having these Weekly Musician podcasts enables me to listen to and support a variety of musicians with spiritual messages that I might not ever have encountered otherwise. Thanks Laura. Thanks Philip. Thanks time4thinkers!
Spirit is so beautifully expressed through gospel/rap music.
Rap is not a special gift reserved for certain colors or cultures. It is pure Love, pure Soul, moving through us. Any one can do it and preach and share goodness! Thank you Laura for freely giving us this gift of grace!
Thanks Laura!
Very cool! I’ll be tweeting this one for sure. Thank you, Laura.
