Ryan Winslow: Where is My Lord?

Ryan Winslow is a classically trained vocalist and self-taught pianist, guitarist, lyricist, and composer. His home base is now Big Sky country in Bozeman, Montana. With only one more year for his Vocal Performance degree at the University of Michigan, he plans to pursue his lifetime aspiration of being a professional musician and singer-songwriter. His passion is the graceful partnership of music and storytelling and its potential to inspire and heal. The rest is up to God.

Song Title:

Where is my Lord?

Lyrics:

The first day of the week
Came Mary Magdelene
Early in the dew
When it was yet dark
And the guards had been long gone
The stone was rolled away
Her Lord’s sanctuary
Had been robbed

Let me see my Lord
Let me care for him
Lead me to his body and his wounds
Let me see my Lord
What have they done with him?
Let me see my Lord
The one I loved
The stone is gone
My Lord is gone

And Mary stood weeping--weeping at the sepulcher
She wept as she entered the tomb
And where her lord had lain
Sat angels robbed in white
And unto her they asked
Why she cried

She cried
Let me see my Lord
Let me care for him
Lead me to his body and his wounds
Let me see my Lord
What have they done with him?
Let me see my Lord
The one I loved
The stone is gone
My Lord is gone

And when she turned about
A man stood behind her
He asked, “Woman, why weepest thou?”
She asked, Have you seen my lord
The one that here was buried
Please tell me if you know where he lays
And he said Mary
And he said Mary

She said
I have found my lord
Just let me follow him
Let me see the world through his eyes
I have found my lord
Just let me follow him
I have found my lord the one I love

WOW! Ryan, this was so moving. Thank you so much!!! Keep it up, as I know you will. The music is in you, man! I loved it! The account at the sepulchre was so vivid, and the feeling in your voice so honest, not to mention beautiful. Bet you like Josh Groban – it’s a similar sound to yours, but both are unique. Thanks for sharing your beautiful gift. Mia

    • Ryan says:

Hey Mia. An honest voice–what a way to describe the timbre of an instrument. Thank you so much. I’m glad the music found its canvas in your experience. Yeah, Josh Groban is my buddy–he has yet to listen to my music though. Maybe someday he’ll get around to it.

  2. itsaboutgood says:

MY GOD THIS MAN IS A CHRISTIAN!

Thank you, brother. This song is what we are all about. Not just the Church of Christ, Scientist – but all mankind.

“Let me see my Lord. Let me care for him…” Amen, brother. Amen. Nursing. Love. Goodness. Rolling away the stone.

What else is there to do?

Have you thought of remixing this track? I’d love to get share a verse on it. For real. :D

    • Ryan says:

My friend–thank you for your enthusiasm and interpretation. I’d be happy to throw around some ideas if you think remixing the track would serve more audiences.

  3. Ryan says:

Monica–that is so wonderful. The church is always in need of new inspiration from musicians. I’d be happy to put you in contact with Nate Frederick or Phil Riley who are currently the individuals managing the Weekly Musician to see what possibilities there might be to help you record.

You are so right. Being active with Christ is so necessary. Having the tools to love and to heal at our finger tips is such a privilege. Beautiful that this piece felt purifying.

    • Monica says:

Thanks for your generous offer of a contact! What I did mean. by “record”, though, is that I am able to sing my song into my phone or play it on my violin, as i am not able to write music as of now. Funnily, all through my music endeavors I had always relied on playing by ear, and I admittedly got lazy and didnt learn to read music very well. This certainly has not stopped me from loving music and it certainly hasnt stopped me from writing it (often inadvertently ).

I had never thought to ever pursue recording in the way you had suggested… wow though, how cool would that be?

After this small interaction with you, i think i shall be more aware of all the musical inspirations and try to better “record” these examples of infinity so I could perhaps walk into a recording place and share the work… (i only have one complete song, in my memory that had suddenly come to me for a children’s book i had written and illustrated). In essence… I am not completely prepared to walk into a studio as of yet!

Thank u so! Lots of <3!

  4. Monica says:

This is moving… makes me teary-eyed. I too am a song writer… not professional, but when inspired, songs and lyrics just come to me. It’s the learning to record these songs that I must learn!

Truly inspiring to hear … i bookmarked this page so i might hear this as often as needed. To me, this song is a precious reminder of the true relation we need to actively have with Christ. Very purifying!

Thanks so much for following and expressing God in this way! Keep following! :)

    Monica

  5. Dwight says:

You captured the essence of Mary’s heart. May we keep asking the question “where is my Lord” and finding a new answer everyday. Very nice Ryan.

    • Ryan says:

What a wonderful question to latch onto, Dwight. That daily discovery is so important. Thank you so much for listening.

  6. Ryan says:

Thank you so much Merrill. I love how many ways the Time4Thinkers.com and Radical Acts sites serve that idea of “Christ calling us together.” It is wonderful how far reaching these contributions are–so humbled to be a part of it.

  7. Merrill says:

Thank you Dear Ryan, truly inspired. Thanks for letting us into your life and sharing your incredible insightful gift.

  8. Frank Smith says:

WOW! You really made that Bible account come so alive with healing, love, compassion! You captured both Mary’s grief and then her awe and wonder at her Master’s resurrection! Thanks for listening to the Christ and sharing what you heard.

    • Ryan says:

Frank-thank you so much. There was a great deal of quiet listening that went into how to communicate this story. I’m so grateful that it spoke to you that way–that is spot on with my intention and direction.

  9. Jill Kuhn says:

Ryan, I loved this! So exciting to hear your continuing talent and inspiration over the years. I served as soloist for the first time in my church this last Sunday and I’m in awe of your grace in performing and how beautifully you let the inspiration shine in your voice.

    • Ryan says:

So glad to hear it, Di. I have been learning a lot about that relationship of power and grace. I hope you are finding those qualities in your own experience and expression–their natural place. Thank you for your kind words and taking the time to listen.

  11. Gordon says:

You’ve got a really powerful and beautiful voice. This goes without saying, but keep singing!

What a beautiful message and a rich, healing gem. Your voice is so uniquely peaceful and pure, yet present and strong. What a comforting sound! Thank you for blessing the world with it, and for sharing your talents in composing for me!

    • Ryan says:

Thank you for your words, Kim. I am grateful that you found comfort in this music. That is really valuable to me. This is perhaps the most conviction I have ever invested in a lullaby.

Working with you was lovely. It was humbling to be a part of and witness your beautiful expression of music–especially in partnership with Mary Baker Eddy’s text. I hope our paths will meet again soon.

  16. Lisa Kristy says:

Is this available to download? It would be awesome to get a CD together of these great musicians!I think a lot of us would be willing to contribute financially and prayerfully!

    • Ryan says:

Lisa, check your mailbox this weekend. I’ll send the current Weekly Musician C.D. off to you today.

Prayerful support is always so appreciated. Right now, I’ve been prayerfully supporting our summit team in Rwanda and reaching out to our dear friends in Colorado.

My great desire is for music to be a catalyst for healing and a vehicle for an immediacy of inspiration.

  17. Kate says:

sweet Ryan…this is so lovely, and so deeply moving. I love you, and the depth of your love for Christ. Thank you for sharing this inspiring story and song with all of us. always with Love, kate

    • Ryan says:

dearest Kate, I’m so glad this found its way to you. Your presence in my life has been and continues to be invaluable. Being at The Mother Church this summer has been incredibly uplifting. Learning to love more. Learning to listen better. Finding the ease of happiness.
